Product Care

Here are a few tips on how to care for your product:

Unframed Prints:

Unframed prints will arrive in a protective cellophane sleeve in a hardback envelope.  We advise that you do not remove the print from the cellophane until you are ready to frame it and once you have looked at the print return it to the envelop and store the envelop laid flat.

Handling:

Keep any handling of the print to a minimum, if you need to handle the print for framing follow these tips to avoid damaging the print.

  • Wash and dry your hands thoroughly prior to handling the print to avoid any dirt or oils from your skin marking the paper.  If possible wear cotton gloves.
  • When holding the print balance the edges on your fingers like you would hold a photograph to avoid getting finger prints on the image.
  • Do not place the print face down on any surface, and do not place anything on top of the print.
  • We recommend you frame the print as soon as possible to avoid any damage caused by handling the print.

Framing your print:

If possible use a professional framer, if you choose to frame the print yourself the following points will help you get the best results.

  • Before placing the print in the frame add any hanging accessories to the frame as per instructions of the frame you have purchased.
  • Clean the frame and the glass both sides, use a dry dusting cloth and avoid using any products.  If you choose to use products ensure that you thoroughly dry the frame and the glass before placing the print in the frame. Moisture form  any products will damage the print as will any chemical residue left by cleaning products.
  • If you choose to surround the print with a window mount it must be made from acid free material.

As we do not use window mounts when framing our prints the following advise is for framing a print without a window mount.  If you choose to use a window mount there is lots of advise and step by step instructions that can be found on google or youtube. Or even better speak to your local framer.

  • We recommend that you back the print with acid free backing board, this will protect the print from any indentations caused by the board at the back of the frame and  will also keep the the print stiff and flat.
  • Place the board behind the print when framing, we do not recommend you stick the print to the board.
  • Making sure the glass is free of dust (see above for frame cleaning tips) place the print on the glass  remembering to follow the advice above on how to handle the print.
  • Place the backing board on to the back of the print and then add the back of the frame.
  • Close the frame following the instructions that came with your choice of frame.
